Dear XYZ (your friend’s name),       (Date of writing the letter)

I hope you are keeping well by the bless of the Almighty. I am well. How about uncle and aunt ? It has been many days since I last saw you. By the way, as I was reading your letters a few moments ago, I saw that I have not told you about the thing in which we stay indulged over the whole year - and it is the festivals of West Bengal.

You know that our state West Bengal has a rich heritage and is known for its rich heritage all over the world. In Bengali there is a proverb that Bengalis have ‘13 occasions in 12 months’ - which means that there are uncountable occasions in our calendar - and that is what I am going to tell you about.

First, let's start with the biggest festival of West Bengal - Durga Puja. Durga Puja is considered to be the biggest festival of Bengalis - not only the Bengalis who live in West Bengal but also for the whole Bengali community. Durga Puja helds in October.

The second biggest festival of West Bengal is Kali Puja. It helds almost one month after the Durga Puja. Within the time span of Durga Puja and Kali puja and another small festival is heldIn almost every Hindu family, this festival is known as Lakshmi puja.

Holi or Dol Yatra is celebrated in the month of March - it is known as the festival of color. In this festival people play with different kinds of colours - Abir (dust color), Water Color. In fact,Holi is celebrated across the whole of India.

Other festivals of West Bengal include - X-mas, Eid, Janmashtami, New Year's Day, Poila Boisakh.

Autumn is the season of festivals because most of the biggest festivals of West Bengal fall in this season. The series of festivals starts with Vishwakarma puja and ends with Kali puja / Diwali.

Diwali is known as the festival of light. People lit candles and decorated their houses with different kinds of colourful lights.

As people of different religions live in West Bengal, we celebrate the festivals of different communities. Just like Durga Puja, we celebrate Christmas, Eid etc.

So this was very little description of the festivals that we celebrate all through the year. I hope that you have got interested in the festivals. By the way, another big festival called Kali Puja is just coming up next. If you visit our house we can all together celebrate this festival and have more fun together. That's all for now, take care. Pay respect to uncle and aunt.
